How Do I Get Involved

North Kildonan Mennonite Church is not a place for spectators. It is a place for team members. Whether you are a five-year old child, a ninety-five year old grandmother, a busy mom, or a businessman with big responsibilities, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Here are some examples of how you can learn, serve, and grow at North Kildonan Mennonite Church.

Worship Music

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music ministry. Some play their instruments such as piano, organ, drums, flute or guitar. Some are vocal soloists. Others are involved in choirs or praise and worship bands. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of North Kildonan Mennonite Church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of North Kildonan Mennonite Church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. This includes maintaining a church website, operating the sound system for church services, or other functions, as well as supplying any audio or visual needs when needed for worship.

Ushers / Greeters

At North Kildonan Mennonite Church we believe that making people feel welcome with a smile and handshake is a vital part of Sunday morning ministry. Whether you are a guest, visiting for the first time, or a regular attender, you will be warmly greeted with
an invitation of acceptance and friendship.

Sunday School

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, North Kildonan Mennonite Church holds a Sunday school service held in the basement during the Sunday morning worship time in the Sanctuary. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly Sunday school volunteers have an endless stream of patience, creativity and love.

Youth Ministry

On Wednesday nights, young people get together to build their Christian faith. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every youth gets to participate and learn. Each of the youth leaders are carefully screened and offer positive role models to the teenagers.

Kids Club

The North Kildonan Kids Club meets Monday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30. It is for all children in grades 1 – 6. The evenings are times of Bible study, prayer, crafts, sports, games, outings, and service opportunities. Please join us for what is undoubtedly a fun filled and energetic evening.

Bible Study Groups

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, North Kildonan Mennonite Church builds community, and has small bible studies held in member homes or at church. The people making up a group are intended to be multi-generational. The size of the group is anywhere from six to twelve.

Family Ministries

Special events are planned during the year which are family oriented. These are times of community building and Christian fellowship where the Body of Christ is strengthened.

Prayer Shawl/Quilt Ministry

This NKMC ministry has been blessing persons with the gift of shawls and quilts for over 15 years already!  To date they have knitted a total of 825 shawls and 120 quilts that have been presented to individuals.  Persons who have been touched by these special hand-knitted shawls and sewn quilts include friends, co-workers, neighbours, relatives, widows, widowers, teens/young adults who have lost parents and parents who have lost children to various illnesses, participants of a Crisis Pregnancy retreat , an exchange student, a baby and its mother, church members and their families, men and women alike.  Each shawl or quilt recipient receives a personalized blessing and photo of their shawl.  These gifts seem to have a significant impact on individuals.  Those most blessed are the committed and generous women who have the privilege of creating for others, blessing the shawls and presenting them to their recipients!  We are so thankful that we are able to serve in this tangible way.  Meetings each month are hosted in member’s homes where blessings are bestowed upon newly created shawls, knitting of more shawls continues and sharing is encouraged.  All funds for this ministry come either from fundraising or from NKMC member donations.  New knitters and quilters are always welcome to serve and fellowship with us.  If you want to learn, we can teach you!
